Years ago I saw a huge bright orange ball of light, flicker like lightning in a cloud at night. What was that?

I was staying in Daytona Beach, this was in the 80’s. I was on a balcony looking at clouds above the ocean. The cloud would light up with a perfect round ball of orange light inside. It flickered just like lightning does but had no sound. I read about ball lightning, but that’s not the same as this. It was about the size the sun or moon would be from my vantage point. Not sure how big it was really because it was relatively close. It’s always bugged me for years & I really wish someone could tell me what it was or that they had seen something similar.
It definately looked electrical,just like lightning. It was in clouds above the ocean, so it was definately not a streetlight. The moon was not out that night either. It was very big and round and bright.
